The Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) has officially launched the Digital Excellence Awards 2026 under the forward-looking theme, "Embracing the AI Revolution." The flagship initiative is designed to recognize and celebrate organizations driving digital innovation, while strategically steering the nation toward a globally competitive digital economy.

The launch event brought together key government figures and industry leaders, unified by a shared vision of transforming Sri Lanka into a premier digital nation.

Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, Chief Advisor to the President on Digital Economy, delivered the keynote address. During his speech, Dr. Wijayasuriya highlighted the government's steadfast commitment to elevating local technology standards, announcing that the state is making it mandatory to standardize and certify all services in strict accordance with global benchmarks.

Building on this vision, FITIS Chairman Dr. Dayan Rajapakse emphasized the critical need for infrastructure and ecosystem readiness.

"In preparation for achieving a $15 billion digital economy, it is imperative that we aggressively develop our country’s standardization frameworks and digital ecosystem," stated Dr. Dayan Rajapakse.

The Digital Excellence Awards 2026 will serve as a catalyst for this standardization. Mr. Fairooz Habeeb, Project Chairman of the Digital Excellence Awards 2026, outlined the roadmap for participating organizations. He noted that FITIS has already established a comprehensive benchmark compliant with international standards.

"With the guidance of our knowledge partners and consultants, the next step for local organizations is to be assessed and certified by recognized global entities such as CPG Global," Mr. Fairooz Habeeb explained.

The high-profile launch event also featured remarks and insights from several prominent industry leaders, including Mr. Thushera Kawdawatta, Managing Director of Sysco LABS; Mr. Rikaz Moin, President of the FITIS Software Chapter; and Mr. Ehantha Sirisena, Exco Member of the FITIS Software Chapter.

Through initiatives like the Digital Excellence Awards 2026, FITIS continues to champion the integration of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies, ensuring Sri Lankan enterprises remain at the forefront of global digital transformation.
