A foreign investor has reportedly submitted a project proposal for the construction of one of the two proposed hotels at the new city to be established by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) at the Southern Expressway interchange at Makumbura in Kottawa.

While commenting on this to adaderanabiz.lk, UDA Deputy Director – Planning Division, Ms. Priyani Navaratne said that this investor’s project proposal is being studied and it is a hotel with over 25 stories.

In addition this particular investor has also expressed keenness in establishing housing and commercial facilities at this city.

“Apart from this foreign investor, several local investors too have inquired over establishing facilities in this new city. After the UDA establishes the basic facilities for the new city plans are afoot to involve private investors to develop the city,” said Ms. Navaratne.

The UDA has already acquired 25 acres of land at Makumbura in Kottawa to establish this new city and initially a bus stand and a railway station are to be set up.

The Kottawa-Malapalla rail track will be extended to this location and once completed the city would become a transportation hub, added Ms. Navaratne.

Apart from the hotels, a housing project targeting the middle class, two shopping complexes, a vehicle parking lot, entertainment facilities including a swimming pool and also a row of restaurants are planned for this new city.

The UDA says reclamation of marshy land for this city would begin in about one and a half months and JAICA is to assist with the funds for the initial work.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau now at Koswatte in Battaramulla is to be relocated to this new city and an extent of around one acre of land has been reserved for this, says the UDA.

There is also a separated area for the construction of buildings for government and private offices. The government is to provide the private sector with the necessary land on lease to establish the offices and each building should be of over 10 stories.
