Foreigner to fill SriLankan vacancy after CEO Kapila’s resignation?

Applications have been called for from suitably qualified Sri Lankans or foreigners to permanently fill the vacant posts of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Commercial Officer at the national carrier SriLankan Airlines.

The deadline for the close of applications has been given as 14 days from the date the advertisement is published.

SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena resigned from his post recently.

While the national carrier SriLankan Airlines has recorded a huge loss of Rs. 29 billion during 2014, the loss incurred since the management agreement with Emirates Airlines was cancelled in 2008 up to now is Rs. 122 billion.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s annual report, though the airline’s profits grew by 5.5 per cent to Rs. 115.5 billion, its expenditure indicated a heavier growth of Rs. 144.4 billion.
