There are all likelihoods of the proposed free trade agreement between Sri Lanka and China being signed end this year and currently both countries are reportedly involved in ironing out any differences in this process.

“Discussions are currently in progress between the Sri Lanka Board of Investments (BOI) and the Finance Ministry over the contents of this agreement,” said BOI Investments Division Executive Director Renuka Weerakoon while speaking to AdaderanaBiz.

China’s Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Wu Jianghao while expressing views in Colombo recently said since China enjoys a trade excess in business with Sri Lanka they had decided to consider entering into this free trade agreement without causing any disadvantages to Sri Lanka.

He also added that Sri Lanka is a friend of China.
