How automated overhead walkways will come up in Kottawa

March, 22, 2014

While we reported yesterday that Sri Lanka’s first ever automated or electrically operated escalator/overhead walkway is to be constructed in Panadura, AdaderanaBiz learns that the government plans to construct three more such overhead walkways in the Kottawa town.

This is how Road Development Authority head R.W.R. Pemasiri explained the project, “We have found that around 3,000 pedestrians cross the roads in the Kottawa town. This is another cause for the traffic congestion. Hence, we have decided to construct three electrically operated overhead bridges for the pedestrians to cross these roads in Kottawa.”

Work on the construction of these three automated overhead walkways will begin this year, Mr. Pemasiri added.
