SLIIT is set to host the 5th International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC) on 7th and 8th of December 2023, at the Waters' Edge Hotel, Battaramulla.

The annual conference organized by SLIIT's Faculty of Computing provides a platform to discuss the latest issues and trends that will pave the way for future technological innovation in computing, and to promote an advanced research culture locally and globally.

This year’s ICAC 2023 theme - Technological Innovation for a Sustainable Economy, aims to focus on the conference's commitment to address pressing areas of concern.

The two-day conference will feature two keynotes from eminent international speakers. Prof. Kazuo Kiguchi from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan will speak on the topic “Real-time Estimation of Human Motion Intention and Generation of Artificial Motion Sensation “and Prof. Roshan Ragel of the Department of Computer Engineering of Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya will talk about “Artificial Intelligence for Internet of Things:  Emerging Trends and Future Directions”. They will share insights on cutting-edge advancements in computing.

Additionally, on December 8th, ICAC 2023 will also host specialized workshops on trailblazing topics by experts Dr. Nalinda Kulathunga, Senior Data Scientist at Wiley on ‘Understanding Context Extraction in NLP’ and another by Prof. Chathura R. De Silva and Dr. Kutila Gunasekara of the University of Moratuwa's Department of Computer Science & Engineering on the topic ‘Internet of Things for Everyday Life’.

ICAC 2023 will bring together leading researchers, academics and industry experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, cybersecurity, etc. This year, ICAC received a record number of 489 manuscripts from local and international authors, including India, Indonesia, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka, reflecting the growing significance of the conference. The rigorous double-blind review process ensured the selection of high-quality papers. 146 papers have been accepted for presentation at the event representing a paper acceptance rate of 33%.

The conference features 30 important technical sessions, 4 pre-conference workshops conducted by experts in the field, offering attendees an immersive learning experience.

The conference will facilitate a wide range of tracks covering topics such as Autonomous Intelligent Machines and systems, Advances in AI and Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Healthcare and Assistive Technologies, Communication and Networked Services, Technology-enhanced Learning, Distributed and Parallel Computing, Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, and ICT in Agriculture.

The General Chair of ICAC 2023, Dr. Dasuni Nawinna emphasized, “The main goal of ICAC is to advance research culture and the caliber of research in all fields of computing, particularly those conducted by Sri Lankan scholars. I sincerely hope that ICAC2023 will be both an enriching and inspiring experience that foster new connections, spark fresh ideas and truly contribute to the advancement in the field of computing.

The conference is proudly partnered with Curtin University - Australia, SLIIT Research & International, Epic Technology Group, Senkadagala Finance, International Construction Consortium and endorsed by SLASSCOM in addition to the Technical Co-sponsorship by IEEE Sri Lanka.

Notably, the ICAC conference has reached an h-index of 11 on Google Scholar within a short period of time. The metric reflects the high quality and impact of papers published in previous ICAC proceedings and demonstrates that the work published is valued and cited within the computing research community.
