Gayantha Karunathileka, Minister of Land and Parliamentary Reforms had recently told reporters that five companies have shown interest in operating scheduled internal flights in Sri Lanka and that the government is keen to promote internal aviation services in the country. Accordingly a committee consisting of the Chairman of National Agency for Public Private Partnership and Managing Director of Airport Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited has evaluated the proposals.

Meanwhile the Cabinet of Ministers this week approved a proposal to ask the five firms to apply for operating licences.
