JICA assistance for light rail transit (LRT) feasibility report

Experts have advised that the Light Rail Transit or the commonly called LRT transport network is the most suitable to cater to the future transport needs within the metropolis under the planned Megapolis and Western Development Project.

A proposal presented by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka gained Cabinet nod to obtain the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to prepare the feasibility report on the LRT transport network and thus to expedite the implementation of the proposed network connecting Colombo Fort, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, Union Place and Maradana and the other between the Borella and Malabe areas.

Under this project, seven routs have been identified for the LRT mode of transportation.
