JLanka Presents Informative Seminar to Share Expertise on Crucial Elements of Utility Scale Solar Power Plants

March, 5, 2018

Sri Lanka’s premier solar solutions provider JLanka Technologies is championing Sri Lanka’s next step towards solar conversion, supporting the public power-generating program ‘Surya Bala Sangramaya’ (SBS) through integral initiatives to empower and educate all stakeholders, the latest of which is a seminar on ‘Investing in a Clean Future - Understanding the Value Chain of Utility-Scale Solar PV Power Plants’. The seminar is scheduled to be held on Thursday, 8th March 2018 from 5.00 p.m. onwards at the Kingsbury Hotel. Eng. Buddhika Samarasekara and Eng. Dr. H.M. Wijekoon Banda from the Ceylon Electricity Board will deliver the keynote address at the event, on the timely topic of ‘Integration of variable renewables to the Sri Lankan Grid’.

At present, the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry of Sri Lanka has called for tenders for 90 projects of 1 MW solar power plants on build, own and operate basis under Phase II of the SBS; launched in 2016 by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena, the program targets to add 200MW to the national grid by 2020, and another 1000MW by 2025, which will be 20% of the total projected power requirement of the country by this time. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has identified 17 more grid substations that can connect and purchase power from these proposed solar power generators.

With international competitive bidding now open to potential investors, JLanka Technologies will be presenting this seminar to educate bidders and interested parties on a critical factor leading to the success of putting up a solar power plant - Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) management. EPCs are key players in the implementation of solar projects as they bring together all three key aspects of a power plant; design, material procurement and construction.

JLanka is Sri Lanka’s leading full-service subcontractor for engineering, procurement and construction of solar projects, with an expert resource bank readily available to meet the stringent schedules and fixed budgets. With EPC management experience totaling to over 25MW of solar projects that range from small-scale residential to large-scale commercial developments, JLanka guarantees the most efficient and effective engineering, procurement and construction functions. The company has also partnered with global solar industry leaders such as SolarEdge and Trina Solar to integrate internationally benchmarked technology together with global exposure and experience, to provide the most advanced solutions to the Sri Lankan solar landscape.

The seminar will also feature guest speakers from leading solar power harvesting and monitoring company SolarEdge and experts from JLanka, along with an exhibition of innovative, high-tech products and services that are crucial nodes of the solar value chain.
