There is only one new ultra modern city that would be constructed under the ‘K3’ urban development project planned to link the expressways in Sri Lanka. This is reportedly near the Kottawa interchange of the Southern Expressway.

This project has been titled the K3 urban development project since the it encompasses the three main towns Kottawa, Kaduwela and Kadawatha where the names begin with the alphabet K.

“The only new city under this project will come up only near the Kottawa interchange. The existing Kaduwela and Kadawatha towns which come under this project will be developed,” Urban Development Authority Deputy Director – Planning, Priyani Navaratne told AdaderanaBiz.

The development of the Kadawatha town has already begun under this project.

Since Kottawa, Kaduwela and Kadawatha link the Southern Expressway, the outer circular interchange and the Kandy Expressway they are to be developed as outer Colombo cities with all modern facilities.
