Hotel Developers Lanka PLC has announced the appointment of Veteran actor Lal Weerasinghe, to its board of directors with effect from 28th February 2020. Accordingly, Lal Weerasinghe will serve in the capacity of  Non-Executive Director.

Lal Weerasinghe was a Director for the “Social Security Board” from 2010 to 2013. He also served as a Media Secretary for the “Road Development Authority” in 2010. Lal Weerasinghe has been working as a Business leader for “Riway International” Singapore since 2017. He also successfully completed the Business Leadership Training Program conducted by Riway Dynamic Leadership Development and Goal Achievement in Malaysia.

He pursued his acting career by entering the National Institute of Film, Television and Theatre in Mumbai and the Sri Lankan film industry. His success in the film industry made him commence his own Film production company L.W. Films and he has produced and directed Sri Lanka movies and has also imported foreign movies too. At present Lal Weerasinghe is engaged in acting in many movies in the Indian Film Industry.

Currently, the board is headed by former Urban Development Authority chief and Noritake Company Executive Consultant, Nimal Perera as Chairman, who was appointed with effect from 24^th January 2020.

Other new Directors appointed to the board are Ishan Priyantha Dantanarayana, P. Priyantha Deniyaya, J.M.U. Priyantha Jayamaha, V. Kanagasabapathy, Dheeshana S. Ameresekera and M.K. Pradeep Kumara.

On 20th October 1983, the company changed its’ name to Hotel Developers (Lanka) Limited. In Jan 1984 a Management Agreement was signed with Hilton International to manage the Hotel.

In April 2008 the Company was re- registered as Hotel Developers (Lanka) PLC in terms of the new Companies Act of 2007.In November 2011 the entire shares of the Company was vested with the Government in terms of Revival of the Underperforming Enterprise or Underutilized Assets Act No. 43 of 2011.
