Lost your passport? Here’s what you should do

A special unit has been set up to deal with lost or stolen passports and the Department of Immigration and Emigration requests the owners of such passports to inform this unit.

They are requested to lodge a complaint to the nearest police station and inform this special unit at the Department of Immigration and Emigration along with a copy of the police complaint.

The Department would take necessary action to invalidate such passports with the assistance of Interpol.

If passports are lost in a foreign country, the owners are requested to lodge a complaint at a police station in the particular country and inform the Sri Lankan mission in the same country. The aim of this programme is to prevent any misuse of such stolen passports if they fall into wrong hands.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration warns that after a passport has been reported lost or stolen the owner of the particular passport should not use it again even if it is recovered by him or her.
