Minister Champika sets off electric car wave in Sri Lanka

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka declared open Sri Lanka’s first ever electric car recharging centre at No. 10, Tickle Road, Borella in Colombo.

The Power and Energy Ministry had already declared earlier that such electric car recharging centres would be set up island-wide with the cooperation of the private sector and that they would be installed at fuel stations, supermarkets as well as at homes.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka had state that he expects to introduce a new electricity tariff scheme for recharging of these electric cars.

With the slashing of duties on electric cars through the new government’s interim budget, the price of a Nissan Leaf car dropped as much as by Rs. 570,000.
