August, 17, 2014

Chris Bosh, the six feet 11 inch American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA) was in Sri Lankan recently to ‘shake trunks’ with elephants at Pinnawela.

Gone unreported and hence unknown, Sri Lanka was one among the destinations that Chris, his wife Adrienne Bosh and family picked for a weekend for their family world tour from Dubai to Ghana and many places in between.

Christopher Wesson ‘Chris’ Bosh (30) was nicknamed ‘CB4’ by his former team Toronto Raptors play-by-play commentator Chuck Swirsky, a combination of Bosh's initials and then jersey number.

Chris Bosh while seeking to promote sports and education amongst youths in Dallas and Toronto, set up the Chris Bosh Foundation and regularly speaks to youths about the benefits of reading.

Remembering the challenges he faced as a youth he founded the organization to help younger people in academics and athletics. The Foundation, with programs in Toronto and Dallas, has worked closely with organizations such as the Toronto Special Olympics to raise important funding for community projects. Bosh's mother Freida has served as CEO of the Foundation. As an avid reader, Bosh also regularly speaks to groups of children about the benefits of reading and has received the NBA Community Assist Award for his active contributions for the Raptors community development program in Toronto and Dallas during the course of the NBA campaign. In November 2008, Bosh pledged to donate US$ 75,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. He is also an advocate for increased computer literacy in schools, supporting the non-profit code.org.

In 2011, Bosh married Adrienne Williams and is the father of Jackson and daughter Dylan Skye Bosh.
