The Italian made Lamborghini cars have turned out to be a hot topic in the political field these days. However, the Chairman of Euro Sports which is the Sri Lankan agent for Lamborghini vehicles and a subsidiary of Micro Cars, Dr. Lawrence Perera told www.adaderanabiz.lk that there are only two Lamborghini owners in Sri Lankan.

“There is a Lamborghini care each with the motorsports champion Dilantha Malagamuwa and another Sri Lankan businessman. They did not buy these vehicles from our company. If the manufacturing company sells a Lamborghini vehicle in Sri Lanka then it does so through Euro Sports. We have still not sold any Lamborghini cars in Sri Lanka. The two Lamborghini cars now in Sri Lanka have been bought overseas. Unless is it from the manufacturing company, these Lamborghinis need not be brought into the country through our company,” explained Dr. Lawrence Perera.

While adding that Euro Sports has three Lamborghinis on display for sale in Sri Lanka, Dr. Perera said that the manufacturing company gets around Rs. 25 million per vehicle and that the Sri Lankan government stands to gain around Rs. 65 million as tax revenue.

“A Lamborghini will be sold in Sri Lanka for around Rs. 91 million. Our company would gain only around Rs. 01 million on every vehicle we sell. Also, this make of vehicle does not fall under the luxury vehicle category. Rather it is a hi-tech and high speed motor car.

“The brand name Lamborghini has become so popular worldwide due to its high technology. This vehicle could speed up to around 250 kilometres per hour. Some calling this a super luxury motor vehicle is in fact wrong,” explained Dr. Lawrence Perera.

Dr. Perera is of the view that if anyone could afford a Lamborghini vehicle then there is no fault in selling such a vehicle after paying the necessary taxes to the government and the income of some Rs. 65 million for the government would only strengthen government revenue.

“A lot of the technicians involved with working with Lamborghinis have gained excellent employment opportunities worldwide. I believe more will gain such opportunities. The reason for this it the high technical features of these vehicles,” said the Micro Car chairman.
