Outer circular expressway jumps final hurdle

September, 18, 2014

There are still no possibilities for motorists to enter the Katunayake expressway using the outer circular interchange at Kottawa due to the second and third phases of the section not being completed.

Though the second phase from Kaduwela to Kadawatha had begun the construction work on the third phase from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya had not begun due to the inability to obtain loan facilities.

However, China has agreed to provide loan facilities for the third phase of the 9.3 kilometre stretch of the outer circular interchange Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya and the agreement has been signed by both countries.

The agreement was signed in Colombo by Sri Lanka’s Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B. Jayasundere and Import Export Bank of China Chairman Li Ruogu.

When the third phase of this expressway is completed motorists from the Southern Expressway would be able to directly travel up to Katunayake.

The total distance of the outer circular expressway is 29.1 kilometres.
