Perodua aims to sell one million Myvis by end-2017 from the 850,000 recorded as at end-April this year, on the back of continued demand and other promotions.

President and chief executive officer Aminar Rashid Salleh said on average, bookings for the Myvi were at about 8,000 units per month.

“We are cautiously optimistic that with the activities and promotions lined up until 2017, the target of selling one million Myvi's is achievable,” he told a media briefing in Langkawi.

For the first four months this year, Perodua sold 74,700 vehicles, representing 34.8 per cent of the estimated 218,600 total industry volume.

“Of this, 25,500 were Myvis,” said Aminar.

Perodua’s sales ratio currently stands at 2.6 percent for the export market.

Aminar said exports are expected to pick up as soon as the Axia is ready.

“Export of the Perodua Axia is set for the second half of this year to Singapore, Fiji, Nepal, Mauritius and Sri Lanka,” he added.

Aminar also said Perodua would be more aggressive with exports from 2017 and is currently consolidating operations towards this.

Going forward, he said the carmaker would be introducing a new model, the Perodua Sedan, but did not give a firm timeline for this.

According to Aminar, the Sedan has been approved and is now in the prototype stage.

Since the Perodua Myvi was launched in 2005, the model had 10 variants. The second generation Myvi was launched in 2011, making it the best-selling model in the country.

Earlier this year, Perodua announced a sales target of 208,000 units, a revenue target of RM306 million from its vehicle maintenance services, lubricants, body and paint operations, as well as RM258.9 million from its parts and accessories business for 2015.

Last year, Perodua sold 195,600 vehicles and posted revenue of RM303.4 million for its after sales operations, as well as RM243.7 million for parts and accessories.
