The government has decided to develop the Moragahahena town within the Horana Regional Secretariat Division into a strong economic sub-city.

Towards this, the bus stand, public market, trade complex, the weekly fair, the public playground etc are to be developed speedily. The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is preparing to acquire 1.354 hectares of state land needed for this project

Currently, there is a government farm at this location around one and a half kilometres from the Moragahahena town.

According to the residents of the area, a large crowd arrives into the Moragahahena town daily for work in factories etc.

The UDA has begun a project whereby it develops small and medium scale towns in Sri Lanka.
