While there is an expressway system being established in Sri Lanka now, the interchanges to these expressways are to be developed by setting up business and other facilities, said a senior government minister.

Minister of International Monetary Co-operation and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Sarath Amunugama revealed this while addressing the International Valuers’ Summit conference in Colombo today.

The next phase towards developing these expressway systems coming up in Sri Lanka is to encourage the growth of business premises, recreational facilities etc around these expressways. A super highway or expressway is not just a way of getting from one point to another, said Minister Amunugama.

The Urban Development Authority is already preparing to set up such a city at the Kottawa interchange of the Southern Expressway.
