Police Day in China – By Prof. Samitha Hettige

January, 11, 2023

In the People Republic of China, the Police Hotline is 110. In 1986 the Guangzhou municipality first introduced 110 as the Police hotline. Ten years later in 1996 110 became the national hotline. Thus they celebrate the Peoples Police Day on 10th January. During 2022, 308 officers & 179 auxiliary officers have paid the supreme sacrifice while 4,334 officers and 3,470 auxiliary officers were injured while serving the people (Chinese Police stats). These numbers gives an indication of the very high professional capacity of the force as they had to manage approx 1.5 billion humans with comparatively very less number of casualties (approx 1/5 of world population).

In SL as per Police archives, the policing concept had started during the Dutch occupation. During the same period Java and parts of Malaya were occupied by the Dutch and as a result strong and reliable men from Java had been recruited to staff the SL police force which continued to the times of the British. The officer who paid the supreme sacrifice while capturing “Saradiel” is also believed to have far eastern bloodlines. Despite isolated incidents such as the recently reported Monaragala Cannabis case, SL Police had also maintained high professional standards due to contributions of thousands of silent patriotic officers. China has also assisted to strengthen SL Police force on many occasions.

The need

The need to maintain peace and social stability to prevent internal conflicts is essential for growth. Historically in SL, on full moon days Buddhists engage in meditation related activity as directed by the Buddhist teachings. In most other nations (especially in the west), Police forces are kept on high alert on full moon days to face situations created by violent human behavior. Some analysts link this with magnetic forces connected to lunar movements (including high and low tides). Thus some are called Lunatics. One might wonder if every day is a full moon day in SL judging by incidents reported daily. In that sense the Police force in SL face bigger challenges than in other nations as they have to deal with lunar related behavior on a daily basis. The silent majority should remember that most of these incidents may be soap bubbles to attract spot lights. It is wiser not to get emotional whether it’s the tooth relic or angelic. The selfish behind wish violence in psychedelic.
