While addressing the event to mark the commissioning of the third phase of the Norochcholai coal power plant which is Sri Lanka’s largest power generation project, a representative of the main contractor to the project China Machinery and Engineering Corporation (CMEC) said that the reliability of the plant has by now been increased.

There was heavy criticism against the main contractor China Machinery and Engineering Corporation (CMEC) while this coal power plant had faced frequent breakdowns in the recent past.

During this event replete with Chinese cultural shows, the CMEC representative further added this project has been successfully completed.

He added that some engineers had stayed in Sri Lanka for around six years for this project.

The commissioning of the third phase of the Norochcholai coal power plant was done to coincide with the Chinese President’s visit to Sri Lanka and adds 900 mega watts of electricity to the national grid.
