Sirin Park Baddegama introduces animal therapy to redefine the local hospitality landscape

April, 16, 2026

Introducing a new dimension to Sri Lanka’s hospitality landscape, Sirin Park Luxury Eco Lodge in Ginemellagaha, Baddegama, is offering scientifically proven animal therapy experiences to guests, providing multiple health and wellness benefits.

Scientific research shows that animal therapy helps lower cortisol levels, boosts mood, and promotes relaxation, while the presence of animals has a calming effect on the nervous system.

Speaking about the concept, Founder of Sirin Park, Visita Sirin Leelaratna, said that the property is designed to create a holistic healing experience for guests.

“We are caring for several abandoned donkeys and ponies, along with sheep, goats, and cows, to provide a healing experience for guests when they can bond gently with animals by feeding and interacting with them. In addition, we have chickens, ducks, and other species that live in harmony, creating a peaceful natural environment,” he said.

The property is now introducing accommodation for both local and foreign visitors and offers two suites, Ramya and Suramya, that could house around six guests. These suites are equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning, hot and cold water, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TV, refrigerator, microwave, laundry service, secure parking, and other facilities.

Sirin Park also offers locally sourced meals, with ingredients mostly obtained from its own farm. For those seeking more entertainment, BBQ nights are arranged, and activities such as canoeing in the nearby stream, indoor sports, and cycling facilities will soon be introduced.

“We have invested around Rs. 250 million to develop the property for the last four stages and plan to invest more for a natural swimming pool and other water-based activities.”

“In a bid to reduce dependency on electricity, we have also installed solar energy in our drivers' resting area.”

One of the most sought-after offerings is the ‘Coconut Tour’, which is popular among foreign visitors, particularly those staying near Hikkaduwa, just 12 km away. This three-hour experience gives guests a complete demonstration of the local coconut industry and an authentic Sri Lankan experience.

“We have also modified a 45-year-old Nissan vehicle, which also provides transport to guests.”

A British family of four who participated in the coconut tour said it was a memorable experience, with opportunities to interact with animals and witness Sri Lanka’s natural beauty as an added highlight. Several similar positive reviews have also been shared by international guests.

“We also offer a village tour where guests can mingle with villagers, experience their traditional cooking techniques, and observe cinnamon peelers at work,” the founder, a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and Canada, Leelaratne, added.

“From arrival to departure, every guest is welcomed with warmth and genuine care, with a strong focus on comfort, safety, and environmental responsibility. The comfort of guests and the well-being of the environment are treated as equal priorities.”
