January, 28, 2020

Adding to its fast growing list of degree programmes, the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) has launched its School of Music, offering youth the opportunity of attaining a Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of one of Sri Lanka’s finest and renowned singer/songwriters, Nadeeka Guruge.

“With music being the most effective medium of expression, we believe that this degree programme is a value addition to our curriculum as students who have an inclination for aesthetic studies can pursue their dreams to greater heights,” said Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe, CEO/Founder SLTC, at the recently concluded launch of the SLTC Music School.  “Under Nadeeka Guruge’s instruction as the Head of the School of Music, these students can avail themselves to an amazing musical journey and perfect their passion in music and aesthetic studies,” he further said.

The SLTC is the only non-state higher education institution to offer a degree related to the performing arts. The four-year course content includes Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Recording and Engineering, Music Analysis and the Philosophy of Music.

Maestro Nadeeka Guruge is one of Sri Lanka’s most influential young composers.  His first serious musical work was "Sanyugma" a folk and applied music production with Marcello Titto Li, a Bolivian folk musician, in 1999. Since then he has been working in movies, tele dramas, stage dramas, songs and advertising. His style and sense of pride in local music is positive and under his leadership, students can excel in this field of studies.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for youth interested in becoming future musical directors, producers, songwriters and artistes. They will learn the finer points of this field of study and be able to become thought leaders in the future,” said Nadeeka Guruge.

The Bachelor of Music (BM) is open to any student who has successfully passed their A/Ls in any stream of study. The first batch of students will commence their studies in February 2020 and interested applicants are encouraged to sit for the entrance examination scheduled to be held on February 1st at SLTC Padukka campus, commencing 9:00 am.
