Sri Lanka Economic Summit “Survival to Recovery: Reviving Tourism Inflows”

November, 29, 2021

The upcoming Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021, the foremost and most anticipated economic event of Sri Lanka, will host a lineup of contemporary dialogues under this year’s theme ‘Springboard for revival: Opportunity to reset’.  Day two of the event will feature a session dedicated to ‘Survival to Recovery: Reviving Tourism Inflows’ on 7th December, 2021.

As international travel recommences, emerging from the pandemic with the reopening of borders, the increasing pace of vaccination and accompanying economic recovery, this session will look at how destinations are gearing up for post-pandemic travel beyond the initial pent-up demand. What can we learn from countries that have reopened successfully? How do we rethink our strategies in promoting Sri Lanka as a tourism destination and implementing the much sought-after tourism marketing campaign? Can the industry go back to a USD 4Bn+ earning industry and beyond?

The Presenter at this plenary will be Mr. Steve Saxon – Partner, McKinsey & Company. Ms. Kimarli Fernando – Chairperson, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Mr. Imtiaz Muqbil – Executive Editor, Travel Impact Newswire, Thailand, Mr. Chandana de Silva – Area Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Emirates, Mr. Rajitha Dahanayake – CEO, eMarketingEye and Ms. Sarah Mathews – Group Head of Media Partnerships APAC, TripAdvisor, will join the panel discussion. The session will be moderated by Ms. Shiromal Cooray – Chairman, Jetwing Travels.

The Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021(SLES 2021) is scheduled to be held on 6th and 7th December as a hybrid summit catering to participants who would join online as well as participate in-person at the Shangri-La Hotel.  The theme for the 21st Sri Lanka Economic Summit is based on creating an environment that will be a Springboard for Revival, leveraging on the Opportunity to Reset.
