For Every Miss call given to 1357, when you see any Insurance Advertisement, will help SLIC donate Rs10/- towards Paediatric Ward of NICM

Sri Lanka Insurance (SLIC) is committed to protecting not only today but also tomorrow. The nation’s future is dependent on children and from its onset SLIC has been involved in projects that are connected to the wellbeing and empowerment of the future generation. Continuing this belief is SLIC’s newest project; Sri Lanka Insurance ‘Call to Donate’. Launched on the 28th of October 2015, the campaign is a unifying call to all Sri Lankans, urging them to join SLIC in helping children diagnosed with cancer.

Using a simple Missed Call as the mechanism, the project aims to collect funds for the Paediatric Oncology unit of The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Maharagama. The public has to simply give a missed call to a pre-designated number every time they see or hear any insurance advertisement, and for every call made, SLIC will donate Rs.10 to this fund. Through this process SLIC aims to make a substantial donation to the Paediatric Oncology unit of The National Cancer Institute. To Kickoff donations all those present at the launch conference of this project were invited to make the missed call. A fully-fledged TV commercial, radio campaign and newspaper ads have also been created by SLIC to ensure successful delivery of this message to the public.

According to data released by Ministry of Health, 3.4% of new cancer patients are under the age of 14 with almost equal numbers of female and male children. And 95% of all children diagnosed with cancer are treated at NCI.

“The National Cancer Institute is the only place with accessible treatment option for all most all of these children. But for the hospital coping with the high-volume of patients coming in here is indeed a mammoth task and we believe that this project will help the hospital serve them better and save so many more young lives” said Mr. Hemaka Amarasuriya, Chairman, SLIC.

The fund will provide assistance to the hospital with regards to 3 aspects; buying a C Pap Machine (CPAP), donation of prosthesis as well as essential medicine. Speaking on the project, Dr. Damayanthi Peris, Paediatric Oncologist, NCI said, “We have only 3 Paediatric Oncologists currently, and this unit needs all the support they can get in terms of equipment and drugs, we are thankful to SLIC for providing us with this funding.” The C Pap machine and some of the essential medicine are presently not available at the hospital but are of great need. CPAP helps patients breathe more easily during sleep, ensuring that the airway doesn’t collapse when breathing. Also parents of these children have to buy prosthesis and essential medicine. However not all of them have the financial capability to do so. Through this fund, SLIC will be providing financial assistance to such parents.

This is yet another sentiment to SLIC’s commitment to being the brand that cares for everyone’s life.
