Sri Lanka, Oman to enhance economic cooperation

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad paid a courtesy call on Chairman of the State Council (Upper House) of the Sultanate of Oman Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah bin Ali al Khalili recently. During the interaction Ambassador and the Chairman of the State Council recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Oman and discussed ways and means to further promote bilateral cooperation with particular focus on economic collaboration between the two countries.

During the meeting, Ambassador recalled the exchange of high level visits by a ten-member delegation from the State Council of Oman to Sri Lanka in 2017 and a Multi-Party Sri Lanka Parliamentary delegation to Oman in 2018.  He also extended his gratitude to Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Manthri, the predecessor of Shaikh Abdulmalik Ali al Khalili, for his unwavering support and guidance in promoting bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman.

Ambassador also conveyed the felicitation message extended by the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on the appointment of Shaikh Abdulmalik al Khalili as the Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman and extended his greetings to the Chairman of the State Council on the historic occasion of the 50th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman which was celebrated on 18 November 2020.

Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah bin Ali al Khalili had served as the Minister of Justice of Oman before taking up the current position as the Chairman of the State Council of Oman.

First Secretary of the Embassy W.D.N.M. Abeyesekara accompanied the Ambassador during the meeting.
