Sri Lanka has been ranked as the ‘World’s Best Island ‘at the influential Travel + Leisure magazine’s World's Best Awards scheme, determined according to a readers' survey.
The publication ranked destinations and companies spanning more than 90 categories, including everything from the best city in the world to best domestic airline to best regional resort hotels.
The readers' survey asked respondents to rate destinations and companies across a slew of criteria, which varied depending on the category. For example, Travel + Leisure asked readers to rate airlines based on topics, including cabin comfort and customer service. For cities, the characteristics were sights/landmarks, culture, culture, shopping and more.
"Brands and properties from all over the world — from Peru to Japan, India to Italy, and right here at home in the United States — are recognized by our audience because they deliver exceptional experiences, rooted in a sense of place," Jacqui Gifford, Travel + Leisure's editor-in-chief, said in a statement. "I congratulate all of this year’s winners, who have worked so hard to be among the world’s best."
