February, 10, 2020

It has been planned to vest an extent of about 50 acres of land adjacent to the Harbour with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority for the development of the Kankesanthurai  ( KKS) Harbour.

Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Ports & Shipping to transfer a portion of state land in extent of 15 acres adjacent to the Harbour subject to the payment of Rs.52 million and also to acquire another 35 acres of land under private ownership after payment of compensation subject to the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, was approved by the Cabinet.

Kankesanthurai Harbour is a historic port in Sri Lanka and surrounded by many small industries including cement manufacturing, processing of agricultural products and fisheries. It is the nearest port for all eastern ports in India, as well as for Myanmar and Bangladesh.
