Sri Lanka's government revenue up; Customs chief resigns

May, 26, 2015

Government revenue within the first three months when compared to the same period last year has grown by 08 per cent, said Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media he said that Sri Lanka Customs chief Jagath P. Wijeweera had resigned due to personal reasons and that the government has accepted his resignation.

Though the government is positive on gathering revenue, it would be difficult for Sri Lanka to maintain the budget deficit as proposed by the 2015 budget, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had warned recently.

The IMF had stated that at the end of the collection of the one-off tax introduced by the new government there are possibilities of the government revenue decreasing in 2016.
