SriLankan Airlines Carries a Rhythm Across Borders

October, 14, 2026

SriLankan Airlines carried the rhythm of Japan to Sri Lanka, by flying in five professional Japanese drummers from Ota Ward, Japan, as the Official Airline Partner for the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka’s presentation of Wadaiko Daigen-gumi. Their journey from Tokyo to Colombo on UL455 carried more than artists, it carried the powerful heartbeat of Japanese Taiko drums, drum stands and a traditional KOTO, with much of the equipment requiring special handling as oversized baggage. With care, precision and professionalism, SriLankan ensured the seamless transportation of both the artists and their treasured instruments, reflecting the dedication and expertise behind every journey undertaken by the airline.

The rhythm came alive at the University of Moratuwa on 7 October and the University of Peradeniya on 8 October 2026, as Wadaiko Daigen-gumi brought the energy and spirit of Japanese drumming to audiences across Sri Lanka. For SriLankan Airlines, this was more than a journey between Narita and Colombo, it was a journey of culture, connection and shared experiences. Connecting destinations, bringing people closer, carrying culture, and helping stories travel is what makes every journey with SriLankan Airlines truly meaningful.
