The Trainee Full Stack Developer Course of the University of Moratuwa wins the European E-Learning Excellence Award 2022

The Trainee Full Stack Developer Course offered by the University of Moratuwa, on its online learning platform open.uom.lk, in collaboration with DP Education of Dhammika and Priscilla Perera Foundation has been awarded 1st place at the 8th e-learning excellence award 2022 by the European Conference on e-Learning. This is held by Academic Conferences International UK, a global academic research firm. The E-Learning Excellence Award was established to identify innovative examples of e-learning use.

“Trainee - Full Stack Developer”, the first and only free online software development course was launched by the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with DP Education in February 2022. As at today, there are over 170,000 enrollments and close to 11,000 users are accessing the course from countries such as Singapore, the USA, and the UK. This program provides the foundational knowledge needed for software development. The program contains six modules, which are Python for Beginners, Python Programming, Web Design for Beginners, Frontend Web Development, Server-Side Web Programming, and, Professional Practices in Software Development. On the successful completion of these modules, the students will be awarded e-certificates issued by the Center for Open and Distance Learning, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Engineering Faculty, and the Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Moratuwa.

This award showcases the success of the attempt made in less than one year by the Vice-chancellor of the University of Moratuwa Prof. N. D. Gunawardena, the former vice-chancellor of the Moratuwa University, Prof. Malik Ranasinghe, Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) of the University of Moratuwa, Ms. Vishaka Nanayakkara and the co-founder and chairman of DP Foundation, Mr. Dhammika Perera to provide equitable access to free quality digital education in ICT.

The past winners of the European Conference on e-learning were, Canadian Web-Based Dementia Care Partner Education using the iGeriCare Platform in 2021, the Hong Kong project of Lab/Skill-based learning under COVID-19 in 2020 and, Transforming Professional Learning with Mobile Technologies project in 2019 from UK and Australia.
