Transformation begins in Sri Lanka’s university education

A new beginning has been made to transform Sri Lanka’s outdated university education system to suit the modern world, says the Higher Education Ministry secretary.

Higher Education Ministry secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne told AdaderanaBiz that already a programme is underway where each university student is provided at least with one handbook as the initial step in revamping the university education system.

“This handbook contains syllabuses. We have planned to provide handbooks that are on par with universities like Harvard. The student has to study the handbook and make use of the contents in practice. Apart from this, he or she has to give a PowerPoint presentation on every subject learned. This revamping contains several such practical programmes,” said the Higher Education Ministry secretary.

He further added that a training programme for lecturers too would be held over this revamping programme.
