Uber is the Safest Way to Get Around

December, 5, 2022

Everyone wants to move around safely, and so we’ve built safety directly into our app and services.

This has resulted in 96% of female riders saying that safety is why they choose to travel with Uber, according to Uber Sri Lanka’s Economic Impact Report, compiled by Public First, a UK-based policy research firm. Safety was also highlighted as a top reason to pick Uber across the board.

At Uber, we’re using technology to keep you safe. Some of these features are automatic and apply to all rides, and others let you have additional assistance when you need it.

Here’s how you can use all the safety features we’ve built in for you to stay safe!

Ways You’re Safe with Uber, Always

GPS Tracking – from beginning to end, each ride is tracked by GPS

Two-Way Call Anonymity – You don’t ever need to share your number when you call a driver through Uber

Community Guidelines – We’ve enforced strict guidelines on behaviour for both riders and drivers

Law Enforcement Response Team (LERT) – We’ve got a team 24/7 to alert and work with police if any user needs emergency assistance

Driver Screening and Background Checks – All our drivers are screened and checked, including all publicly available court records, by an independent partner

Women’s Safety – We conduct in-person mandatory gender sensitization workshops in partnership with Manas Foundation for all drivers

Additional Safety When You Need It

Safety Toolkit

We’ve designed a safety toolkit you can use if ever you need to.

Safety Centre – You can learn about safety tips, driver screening, insurance protection and community guidelines using our safety centre

Emergency Button – If you’re ever in trouble, just tap the Safety Shield icon on the map, to pull up your Emergency Button. If you tap it, you’ll be put through directly to law enforcement, and our internal response team will call you to check if you’re ok

Trusted Contacts and Share Your Trip – Select up to 5 trusted contacts to share your ride information so they can follow along. You can find this option in the Uber App Settings, and you’ll be asked if you want to share your ride with your trusted contacts each time, so its convenient and up to you if you want to share or not

24/7 Safety Helpline – In an urgent but non-emergency situation, you can call us 24/7 for assistance

24/7 Support Team – We have a 24/7 Rapid Response team at the ready to handle any issues you may face, and receive any reports from you

How You Can Help Everyone Be Safer

If you ever experience a safety incident while using Uber, make sure to take care of yourself first, and then, once you’re safe, please report the incident to us. By reporting any incident, we can investigate further and ensure everyone is safe!

So, play it safe and always choose Uber!
