A meeting between Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, was held today (03) at the Ministry of Finance.

During the meeting, Ms. Wignaraja commended the progress made by the current Government in stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy and reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to continuing its close partnership with Sri Lanka in the years ahead.

She noted that there were no differences between UNDP and the present Government regarding key principles such as fiscal discipline and transparency, and also praised the Government’s ongoing economic digitalization programme.

Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando expressed his appreciation for the support extended by UNDP to Sri Lanka and emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership beyond financial assistance and technical advisory services, with a view to fostering deeper and more comprehensive cooperation.

Also present at the meeting were Ms. Azusa Kubota, UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka, and Dr. Wageesha Gunasekara, Economist at UNDP.
