Union Bank appoints Indrajith Wickramasinghe as CEO designate

The Union Bank of Colombo has appointed Indrajith Wickramasinghe as its Chief Executive Officer Designate with effect from 15 October 2014.

Mr. Wickramasinghe will take over as Chief Executive Officer from 15 November 2014.

He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Anil Amarasuriya as Director/ Chief Executive Officer with effect from 15 November 2014.

He has over 25 years experience behind him, having worked in both in financial and consumer sectors in local and multinational companies. Having joined NDB over 14 years ago, he has served as Vice President covering functions like Marketing, Human Resources and Head of Banking – a position he held for seven years.

Since 2010 Mr. Wickramasinghe has been the Chief Operating Officer of NDB responsible for all banking areas including Commercial Banking, Project Finance, SME Banking and Retail Banking.

He was a Non-Executive Director of Eagle Insurance/AvivaNDB Insurance, a Non-Executive Director of NDB Capital Holdings PLC, NDB Securities (Pvt) Ltd, Development Holdings (Pvt) Ltd and is a Director of Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka.

Indrajith Wickramasinghe holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenapura and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. He is a member of the Association of Professional Bankers and has been through extensive Executive Education programmes at INSEAD (France), the Sald Business School, University of Oxford, UK and the National University of Singapore.

Meanwhile, Anil Amarasuriya who retires as Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank following a career that spans over 35 years has guided the Bank towards numerous milestones highlighting significant changes to emerge as one of Sri Lanka’s fastest growing banks. He holds 63,552 shares of the bank.
