US-Sri Lanka export bonds continue to surge ahead

April, 16, 2014

The United States, which is the main country which accuses Sri Lanka of violating human rights, is still in the forefront by buying the largest chunk from Sri Lanka’s export market.

The US has bought 24 percent of the exports from Sri Lanka.

While Sri Lanka’s largest export market, the US buys mainly apparels, 10.4 percent of the island’s exports in 2013 have been to the United Kingdom and 5.5 percent to India.

When compared to 2008, though there has been no increase in Sri Lanka’s exports to countries like the UK, Belgium, Germany, the European Union and the Middle East, the increase in exports to the US is significant.
