USD 08 million from India for emergency ambulance service

In a bid to take a seriously ill patient or an accident victim to hospital within the first 30 minutes, the government is to begin an emergency ambulance service for rural areas while utilizing 297 ambulances.

While a similar ambulance service is operative in India, the assistance to begin such a service in Sri Lanka is being provided by India, said the government.

This non-profit earning service is proposed to be made operative in four phases and include a staff of 2,000.

This first phase of this project is to kick-off from the Western and Southern Provinces using 88 ambulances. The Indian government is to provide a grant of USD 08 for this project, said the government.
