A consortium comprising Sri Lankan renewable energy developer Vidullanka PLC and India's Skipper Limited has emerged as the lowest-cost bidder for a LKR 5.0 billion high-voltage transmission line project in Sri Lanka.

The tender, officially titled the National Transmission and Distribution Network Development and Efficiency Improvement Project Package 3 (Phase ii), encompasses the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of 132 kV transmission lines and associated infrastructure. The employer for the contract is the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) / National Transmission Network Service Provider (NTNSP), with financial backing provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The total bid value is approximately LKR 5,000 million (LKR 5.0 billion), with an estimated project implementation timeline of 18 months from contract commencement. Under the proposed execution framework, Vidullanka PLC will manage local execution and project management activities, while collaborating with its international partner, Skipper Limited.

This achievement marks Vidullanka PLC's formal entry into transmission line construction and high-voltage grid infrastructure development. Building upon its existing presence in renewable energy power generation (hydro, solar, and biomass), Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services, and utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), the contract represents a major diversification milestone for the company.

Subject to the completion of technical evaluations and receipt of the Letter of Award (LOA), the project is expected to contribute positively to Vidullanka's future revenue and earnings while establishing a long-term platform to participate in subsequent transmission infrastructure developments across Sri Lanka.
