Well-known glass exporter to lead Sri Lanka’s Industrial Development Board on Indian model

The prominent Sri Lankan glass exporter, Chairman and Managing Director of Asoka Glass & Mirror Company Mahinda Jinasena has been appointed as Chairman of the Industrial Development Board of Sri Lanka.

A Royalist and an engineer by profession, Jinasena has been appointed by Industries and Commerce Minister Rishard Bathiutheen.

New IDB Chairman Mahinda Jinasena has been trained as an automobile engineer by no less than India’s TATA.

“An engineer by profession, I graduated in Management in 1983 in India. In terms of exports, my company exports more than 80 per cent value added glass from Sri Lanka. This is my first appointment in the public sector. I am looking to closely link the IDB with UNIDO. I want to take lessons from India’s strong IDB on how to develop our industry base further,” says Jinasena.
