What is Nimal Perera up to after buying tea brokering company?

After gaining the controlling stake of the tea brokering company Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd (MPB) for Rs. 200 million, prominent investor, Pan Asia Bank Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Ceramics Nimal Perera says that it has been decided to market the tea produced by the Talawakelle and Kelani Valley Plantations belonging to the Hayleys Group as well as the tea produced by Horana Plantations Limited through this brokering firm.

“We expect to market the tea produced by Talawakelle and Kelani Valley Plantations belonging to the Hayleys Group and the tea produced by Horana Plantations Limited through this brokering firm. Then the income of this firm would double,” said Nimal Perera.

This transaction was carried out on behalf of Nimal Perera by his investments company Don Wilbert Capital where it bought 76 percent shares of Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd.

These shares were sold by Mercantile Produce Brokers Chairman Sunil Udalagama, Managing Director Naresh Dambawinna and Chief Financial Officer A.A.G. Vitharana.

Nimal Perera has proposed SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe and Chief Financial Officer of Royal Ceramics Haresh Somashantha to the Mercantile Produce Brokers board of directors.
