April, 21, 2014

Steps are under way to call for tenders from prospective investors for the 500 megawatt capacity Sampur coal power plant, says the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) chairman.

CEB chairman W.B. Ganegala told AdaderanaBiz that it has been planned to obtain at least 70 percent of the cost on this project through private investments.

“The CEB and the National Thermal Power Corporation will invest 30 percent of the capital for this project. The balance 70 percent will be obtained from investors. We expect to call for tenders for investors within the next two months,” said chairman Ganegala.
This project will kick off before the end of this year, added Ganegala.
