Renewable energy producer WindForce PLC has officially expanded its total generation capacity to approximately 268 MW following the dual commissioning of its first standalone battery energy storage system and a new floating solar power plant.

In an official disclosure to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) today (18), the company announced that both clean energy projects are scheduled to be commissioned on the same date.

The newly operational 10 MW / 40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), situated in Anuradhapura, marks Sri Lanka's first grid-scale, standalone battery storage project. The facility was developed through StoreX (Pvt) Ltd, a joint venture between WindForce PLC and Vidullanka PLC.

The project follows an initial project award disclosure made on May 13, 2026. This Anuradhapura installation is the first of 13 planned BESS facilities that will collectively contribute 130 MW / 520 MWh of energy storage capacity to the power grid.

Alongside the storage project, WindForce PLC commissioned a 5 MW floating solar power plant developed by Diyajanani (Pvt) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of WindForce PLC. The execution of the project's Standardised Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA) was previously disclosed on November 28, 2025.

The floating solar facility is projected to generate approximately 9 GWh of clean energy annually.

With the commissioning of these two facilities, WindForce PLC's overall renewable energy generation portfolio has grown to approximately 268 MW.
