Fact Crescendo Sri Lanka confirms they are now fact-checking content on Facebook in Sri Lanka. This continues Fact Crescendo’s commitment to combating false news and support an informed community. Fact Crescendo will check the content published in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

Fact Crescendo – Sri Lanka is a locally based, independent and dedicated team that will review and rate the accuracy of stories on Facebook in Sri Lanka.

Like all of Facebook’s fact checking partners, Fact Crescendo Sri Lanka is certified by the international association of fact checkers- International Fact Checking Network (IFCN).  When we fact-check a story as false, it is shown lower in Facebook’s News Feed, significantly reducing its distribution. This stops the hoax from spreading and reduces the number of people who see it. We follow a standard set of criteria when determining the veracity of stories.

Rahul Namboori, editorial head at Fact Crescendo said; “We are excited to be expanding our services to Sri Lanka, we will work hard to debunk false news. Fact Crescendo is an independent, unbiased fact checking organisation that fact-checks suspicious news from social media and mainstream media and after an unbiased and transparent analysis of the facts is committed to get it corrected.”

Fact Crescendo Sri Lanka is part of the Fact Crescendo fact checking organization, based in India. The team in India played a significant role debunking fake news during the last Indian elections. Having completed more than 3000 fact checks.

The Fact Crescendo Sri Lanka works independently of the Fact Crescendo India.
