Elmo Francis to climb for climate change

Sri Lanka’s non-interest based banking stalwart Amãna Bank has come forward to partner with local mountaineer Elmo Francis as he attempts to set a new Sri Lankan altitude record by climbing the South side of Mt Everest. Having climbed an altitude of 6,654 meters on his previous expedition to Mera Peak (Himalaya region), Elmo will be bidding to reach an altitude of 7,900 meters in this record breaking expedition during April and May 2014.

Commenting on his newest expedition, Elmo, an avid fighter of climate change said, “The main purpose of the expedition is to promote awareness on sustainability and climate change and set a new Sri Lankan altitude record. I am very happy to have Amãna Bank on board in promoting this noble cause. The Bank has always championed to protect mother nature from the adversities of climate change and as employee of the Bank I am thankful for Amãna Bank to have come forward to partner me in this epic journey.”

Since taking up the sport in 2001, Elmo Francis’s passion for extreme exploration and adventure, has led him to win a research award from EarthWatch to partner a Scientific Expedition to the Arctic Circle, becoming the first Sri Lankan to do so. He is currently employed at Amãna Bank as Manager – Training and Development.
