August tourist arrivals up by 11.8%

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka have recorded a figure of 186,288 for the month of August 2016, the latest report of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has revealed. Compared to the corresponding month in 2015 where tourist arrivals had been 166,610, this is a growth of 11.8 per cent.

Meanwhile, tourist arrivals within the first eight months of 2016 has been recorded as 1,359,906 which is a growth of 16 per cent compared to the 1,172,465 arrivals during the same period in 2015.

Tourist arrivals from Western Europe within the first eight months of 2016 has increased from 377,250 to 445,667 (18.1%), from East Asian countries from 242,857 to 291,483 (20%) and from South Asian countries from 280,589 to 320,110 (14.1) per cent.

Meanwhile, the accrued tourism revenue within te first six months of 2016 has grown to USD 1,598.2 million as compared against the corresponding period in 2015 which was USD 1,375.7 million.
