Cabinet approval for US$50 million cable car project in Nuwara Eliya

Cabinet of ministers had given approval for a cable car project in Nuwara Eliya targeting local and foreign visitors.

The project, which will add a new dimension to the attractions in Nuwara Eliya has been proposed by a firm called Outdoor Engineering Lanka Pvt. Ltd. and its foreign Partner Dopelme Cable Car Company.

With an investment of US $50million the firm will build a cable car system on 21 towers running from Nanu oya to Gregary Lake through Single Tree Mountain.

It is expected to operate 86 cars which can carry 10 passengers each. In the first stage 43 cars are expected to be built.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Minister of Plantation industries to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to implement this as a BOI project.
