Chinthaka Wijewickrama elected Chairman of Federation of Information Technology (FITIS)

The apex initiative in the ICT sector in Sri Lanka, Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS) yesterday unanimously elected Chinthaka Wijewickrema as their new Chairman.

Taking over from past ChairmanTharmarajah Suresh,Mr.ChinthakaWijewickrama,plans to develop the ICT sector during his tenure through marketing, promoting, and educating programs by maximizing on the resources available in Sri Lanka.

Chinthaka also said Sri Lankan ICT industry has been maintaining a steady growth during the last decade and currently stands as the 4th largest foreign exchange earner with over US $ 600 million annual revenue generated and over 70,000 well paid work force in the industry.

The industry is striving to achieve US $ 1 billion revenue target and 100,000 employees in the sector by the year 2016 demonstrating high growth potential in the local ICT industry.

Chinthaka is the Managing Director of Sala Enterprises, established in 1992 and has successfully completed 22 years in the Sri Lankan IT market.

“FITIS was established with the purpose of giving a much needed focal point for the ICT industry in the island. During the past 26 years, it has successfully implemented many fruitful programs, which have been successfully carried out to enhance ICT usage and to create a continual growth in the employment opportunities available with the ICT sector” Chinthaka said.
