Different government agendas and policies have significantly influenced the motor industry , Chairman of Ideal Motors, Nalin Welgama said whilst addressing the Indian media during the inaugural ceremony of the Mahindra automotive assembly plant in Welipenna.

“Sri Lanka’s car market is entirely policy driven. This is the problem we have. Each government has their own agendas and their policies. So it is always up and down. So right now we are in a tough situation.”

Speaking further Welgama noted that the motor industry globally is going through a dramatic change, and urged the government to provide more incentives in order to move forward.

“We are going to lobby the government to give us more incentives and to put this on the right strategy in terms of policy sustainability,” he said.
