The first Joint Commission International accredited hospital in Sri Lanka, Durdans Hospital through its diagnostics arm Durdans Laboratory Services opened its 50^th location. Situated in Horana the fully-fledged laboratory houses a collection centre, modern equipment and certified and experienced medical laboratory technicians.

Commenting on the opening of the facility the Executive Vice President of Durdans Hospital Mr. Upul Tudawe notes, “Durdans Hospital has a proud history of 20 years in laboratory diagnostics. Throughout this time our emphasis has been to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the results we produce. The new location in Horana follows the same high quality safety standards synonymous with Durdans Laboratory Services. Highly trained staff ensures minimal pre-analytical error, whilst a special coding system of samples is also in place to ensure accuracy and traceability with results being certified by Consultant Pathologists.

The external quality control systems of The College of American Pathologists (CAP) and American Association of Bio-Analysts (AAB) are in place. Durdans Laboratory Services has ISO 15189 accreditation of the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) for over 80 laboratory investigations. Laboratory investigations include; bio-chemistry, endocrinology, haematology, chemical pathology, microbiology, immunology, serology, histopathology and molecular biology. Durdans Laboratory Services also has its own Molecular Biology R&D section which develops new investigations.

Extended services of the Durdans Laboratory Services include mobile sample collection from patients who are unable to travel to a centre, preventative check-ups for a healthy lifestyle, and immediate reporting of critical results to clinicians. Furthermore, Durdans Laboratory Services trains staff for registered collection centres to ensure that the same stringent standards are adhered to.

Also commenting on the expansion plans for Durdans Laboratory Services, Manager Operations Mahanil Perera explains, “As we mark the opening of the 50^th location, we are now looking at taking our high-quality range of services to every area around the island.
