Encouraged by Lonely Planet’s travel endorsement – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (3) noted that the continuing endorsement of Sri Lanka as the world’s best travel destination for 2019 by Lonely Planet is a great strength for the island.

“At the beginning of the year, Sri Lanka was named as the world’s best destination for tourist to visit. Nevertheless, after that Easter Sunday attacks we thought that we had lost this position but despite all the troubles Sri Lanka has confronted, we still remain the best destination for tourists to visit. This is a great strength to us in Sri Lanka. Premier said in a statement.

Speaking further Prime Minister Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude to all those in the tourism sector who has given their contribution in order to keep the industry moving and thanked the security forces for helping the government to capture those responsible for the attacks.”

"We have taken many steps to revive the industry. We will take more steps to do so". "I can ensure that the tourism industry has a promising future in Sri Lanka.”  Wickremesinghe added.
